If there were just three rights you need to get right, wouldn’t life be easier? When you are working on your goals, you want to be fully committed and produce your best work, right?
What happens if you are not focused on the right things? You may get sidetracked or lose sight of your goals.
What happens if you do not have the right attitude? You could lose motivation to achieve your goals.
What happens if you do not have the perseverance to get it right? You are cutting yourself short and not getting the results you desire.
It is important to remember that success is not just about having the talent or the skills, but also about having the right attitude, focusing on the right things, and the ability to persevere until you get it right.
We have worked with hundreds of top sales professionals over the past twenty plus years. We’ve followed many of them out into the field to watch them in action. And we interviewed them to understand what makes them so good. Even though each sales professional had a different approach, each had three common characteristics that made them successful. So here you are, the Three Rights you need to get right.
The RIGHT Attitude
We observed that sales professionals who achieved the greatest success embraced a positive attitude toward all their activities, and yes, all their activities. This Right may be the most important and transferable of all The Three Rights.
Your attitude determines your perspective on challenges, your approach to problem-solving, and your ability to bounce back from setbacks. In fact, according to a LinkedIn poll, professionals agree that having a positive attitude is the most important quality that employees look for in candidates and team members. A positive attitude can help you stay motivated and focused on your goals, even when you are faced with obstacles. The right attitude also helps you maintain a growth mindset, helping you view failures as opportunities for learning and growth.
On the other hand, a negative attitude can hold you back from achieving your goals and success. Negativity can lead to self-doubt, fear, and a lack of confidence. This can lead to an unbreakable cycle of negative thoughts and behaviors that can prevent you from reaching your goals.
It is important to note that having a positive attitude does not mean that you ignore problems or pretend that everything is perfect. It means that you approach challenges realistically and with a mindset of resilience and confidence in your ability to overcome them. This allows you to stay focused on your goals, maintain a positive outlook, and ultimately achieve success. Next, the third of The Three Rights.
Focus on the RIGHT Things
Another observation stood out during our research. Each sales professional had their own strategy. Including presenting their product or service, overcoming objections, and their follow up. The key to success is not just their set of skills, it is their ability to focus on the things that allows them to make progress.
When you focus on the right things, you will be able to prioritize your time, energy, and resources to achieve your goals. You will be able to prioritize and pursue the most important tasks that will make progress towards your goals. This allows you to use your time and resources more effectively and avoid getting distracted or overwhelmed by tasks that may not be as important.
When you focus on the right things, you to stay motivated. And you maintain a sense of purpose. You must have a clear understanding of what you need to accomplish. And also, why it is important to accomplish it. That way, you stay motivated and committed to your goals. Additionally, by focusing on the right things, you are able to measure your progress more effectively, and make adjustments as needed to stay on track.
You lose the opportunity to make forward progress when focused on the wrong things. For example, complaining about things that are out of your control. That’s a big one. Or even blaming others for your poor results, or getting involved in water-cooler drama.
Overall, focusing on the right things is an essential component of success, as it allows you to work efficiently and effectively towards your goals, stay motivated and maintain a sense of purpose, and measure your progress and make adjustments as needed.
Persevere until you get it RIGHT
While interviewing these top professionals, they were proud to share stories of their top clients. Most of all, they were proud of the challenges they had to overcome to make the sale. These stories share the same theme of persevering until they get it right. As in closing the deal, pushing through failures, or convincing the team to change directions.
Perseverance is important because it allows you to move forward in the face of challenges and obstacles. It means that you do not give up, you stay committed to achieving your goals even when things get difficult. Perseverance is crucial to success because success is never given, it is earned. There will always be setbacks and roadblocks along the way. Without perseverance, it is easy to become discouraged and give up before you achieve your desired outcome.
In addition, perseverance helps to build resilience and grit, which are important qualities for success. When you persevere, you develop the mental toughness to keep going even when things are tough. This not only helps you to achieve your goals, but it also helps you to build character and personal strength.
Wrapping it Up
When you are stuck in a tough situation and are having a difficult time making progress, rate yourself on a scale of “yes” or “no” for each of the Three Rights. You will often find there is one ingredient to success that will help you break through.
