When Change Becomes Too Much: How to Help Your Team Beat Change Fatigue

Sometimes change is exactly what the team needs.

We’re approaching the low point in the S-curve, and it’s time to shake things up.

On the other hand, there are some situations where we’ve changed things too many times.

Where one urgent change initiative followed another… and another.

This graph is not saying another change isn’t a good idea. Or that it may not even be necessary for survival.

What the data shows us is that humans actually do experience change fatigue.

And here’s the kicker.

Without the team embracing the change, great change initiatives are wasted.

So how can we help our team build stamina so they can better handle the adaptations needed to thrive in this everchanging environment?

Here are 7 steps to get you started:

      1. Foster psychological trust
      2. Deploy change champions within the team
      3. Help team members embrace the “why” and the benefits
      4. Manage the pace of trust
      5. Reward progress–even the small wins
      6. Practice healthy mindset habits
      7. Lead by example

Change is inevitable, but burnout doesn’t have to be.

Which of these 7 steps does your team need to focus on most right now? Drop your thoughts in the comments below, or connect with our executive coaches to start building a change-ready culture.
